Whenever there are heavy rains in the city of São Tomé and its surrounding areas, both citizens and government officials become anxious. Over the past few years, heavy rainfall has caused floods, landslides, and destroyed bridges, leaving a trail of destruction behind. Unfortunately, the existing infrastructures, especially the roads, were not designed to withstand the climatic shocks that have occurred or the ones that are likely coming in the future.
